ABERDEEN SINFONIETTA TRUST

Aberdeen Sinfonietta recently promoted the establishment of a Trust, to support the orchestra, to attract funding and to help secure its long-term future. Aberdeen Sinfonietta Trust has been granted charitable status (SCO41758).  A very successful public launch event was held in June 2011, and there are plans to hold further fund-raising events, as well as special events for Trust members. The annual membership subscription is currently £15.

If you are interested in membership of the Trust, or would like more information about it, please e-mail ast@btinternet.com.

WHAT THE CRITICS SAID:

Aberdeen Music Hall, 6 November 2011

It seemed that every colour in the music [Dvořák's "New World" Symphony] was imbued with a special new brightness in this performance...  The delicious melody of the largo first on cor anglais then later on strings with a gloriously silky smooth rendition from the leader was better than I ever remember hearing and the Finale, taken at a spanking pace by Garry Walker was nothing short of magnificent.

Aberdeen Music Hall, 29 May 2011

Last night at the Music Hall the Sinfonietta proved they were more than capable of producing well-crafted dynamic performances, but more interestingly they now have an established sound that is richly layered, alert and punchy. Under Garry Walker's attentive baton, the Sinfonietta deployed their trademark sound during a compelling programme.

Aberdeen Music Hall, 14 November 2010

The Sound Festival reached a resoundingly exciting conclusion with a performance that included a new Guitar Concerto by Aberdeen born composer John McLeod. McLeod conducted Aberdeen Sinfonietta, an orchestra that is thoroughly professional in all but name and with the young star of the guitar Ian Watt as soloist. ..

Technically, the Overture Béatrice et Bénédict by Berlioz was the orchestra's most accomplished performance. Tightly controlled, detailed and well focused playing with silky strings and a remarkable light touch carried it off. This was eclipsed by the epic power of the Sibelius Symphony. Swirling strings, the irresistible force of glowing brass and, in the finale, the blazing light of melody really hit home.

Aberdeen Music Hall, Sunday 30 May, 2010

"The Aberdeen Sinfonietta's Sunday evening concert season in the Music Hall is now well established and while this superb local orchestra grows in popularity and stature, it continues to attract soloists of international standing."

(Roddy Phillips in the Press and Journal)
